The Story of Razia Sultan at the Qutub Complex
The Story of Razia Sultan at the Qutub Complex
with Mariyam Siddiqui

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the greatest Queen of Indian History - ‘Razia Sultan’ the woman who inspires legends. She commanded her army, brought down the most chauvinistic nobles and administered her people with justice and courage.

The walk is centered around the Qutub complex. It was here that Razia led her successful insurrection. We will see the tomb of Iltutmish built by his favorite and worthiest offspring – his daughter. Also, the Masjid Quwwat-Ul-Islam, in which the Khutbah was read in the name of a female in a mosque where even their presence was prohibited.

Her strength did not lay in the powerful nobility or the strong army but in the common populace of Delhi. With whom she was so popular and so well loved that no rebellion against her could have succeeded and every court conspiracy would have failed.

Then how did she die? For love or power? Or simply because she dared to be a fearless woman in a man’s world.
