In this heritage immersion, discover how the founders of the 2nd city of Delhi at Siri, the Khalji’s, were not considered worthy enough even to reside inside the city limits by the makers of the first city of Delhi at Mehrauli. No wonder that the accession of Khalji's to the throne of the Delhi Sultanate was termed as a revolution.

The rugged walls of Siri stand witness to the bloody betrayal of relationships - of master and slave and then father-in-law and son-in-law. In this trail we will try to understand defense and spy system that Alauddin Khalji created for the security of Delhi. His policy of blood and iron didn’t allow even the Ulema (Islamic clergy) to interfere in the affairs of the state. He was a unique ruler who never applied for investiture by the caliphs nor did he recognize the caliph to be his political superior. A ruthless ruler, discover how he ordered the beheading of 8000 Mongols and how he preferred merit over religion by throwing open the state services to the commoners including Hindus. Alauddin Khalji controlled market and price rises in such an ingenious way that modern economists still use the term “Khilji Effect”. Find out the about his efficient system of price control, checks and measures and consumer court and severity of punishment that led to cheap rates of goods in Delhi which attracted learned men and craftsman to migrate to this city.

Gaurav was born in 1987 and has been a lifelong Dilliwala. He grew up amidst the multilayered culture of Delhi. He has a degree in History (honours) from Dayal Singh College, University of Delhi and subsequently he enhanced his passion for history by completing the 'INDIA: ART & CULTURE' certificate from the National Museum Institute. His experience of working in art galleries gave him a fair idea of what art connoisseurs look for. He was a history consultant with the TIMES Newspaper in Education and had a short stint at Khalsa college, St. Stephens Colleges and the Department of History at Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Delhi. His long experience of researching on historical personalities has lent him enough credentials to narrate historical events in a well researched/factual and storytelling manner.
